by News 5 Sports

When high school football games kick off Friday night, none will likely be more watched than the top 10 Class A showdown between the Grand Island Islanders who visit the Kearney Bearcats. The contest is our Aurora Cooperative Game of the Week.

The Bearcats have dominated the series in recent years winning ten straight against the Islanders, including a 38-33 decision at Memorial Stadium last season.

Here in 2011, both have won its first two games. The 2nd Islanders have outscored Norfolk and Omaha Bryan 84-0.

The 6th ranked Bearcats of Kearney has defeated Columbus and Lincoln Northstar but haven't dominated either opponent.

It is one to look forward to.

There is every reason to believe Coach Cool. In this game last season, the Bearcats jumped out in front, then held off the Islanders late to achieve the victory.

Those 84 points in two games for the Islanders has really gotten the Bearcats attention.

Whichever teams wins or loses there is no doubt both teams have high hopes of making the Class A Playoffs.
