Abdullah will sit out several practices due to injury
Nebraska running back coach Ron Brown said it best January 1st. He sounded a tone of optimism, even though the Huskers had lost to the Georgia Bulldogs in the Capital One Bowl.
"We're close" he said meaning close to a league championship and return trip to college football's Top 10. Much of that anticipated success no doubt rests on the shoulders of junior running back Ameer Abdullah. After quite a scare in Saturday's scrimmage, it appears a knee injury he suffered isn't as serious as first thought. However, coach Bo Pelini said the junior running back from Hopewell, Alabama will sit out a few practices, but could return to play in the Red-White spring game April 6th at Memorial Stadium. Ameer led the Huskers running for 1137 yards on 226 carries with 8 rushing touchdowns and a five yard a carry average. Bo might keep him out of the rest of spring ball to get a look at the other backs competing for playing time once the season opens August 31st against the Wyoming Cowboys. Sophomore offensive lineman and former Crete Cardinal Ryne Reeves is out for the rest of spring ball with an injured ankle. Coach Pelini called the Husker scrimmage Satuday "mentally weak." The team has two more practices this week before taking 10 days off for spring break. Workouts resumes March 25th ahead of the Red-White scrimmage.. |
