Nebraska's Director of Alumni Affairs and one of the voices of Husker volleyball Dianne Mendenhall summed up the excitement on campus today as Nebraska joins the Big 10 conference.

Chancellor Harvey Pearlman presented Governor Dave Heineman with one of the Big Red Big 10 T-Shirts, many of which will no doubt be seen all over Lincoln and other cities in the days and weeks to come.

The Chancellor had a chance to relay message from some of his colleagues at the other Big 10 schools that welcome Nebraska with open arms.

The Iowa Hawkeyes, now the nearest Big 10 opponent for the Huskers, is one such school and their president wasted no time in jumping on the Husker welcome wagon.

Nebraska football coaches have, of course, been pouring over the film of their future Big 10 opponents.

To a man, they relish the challenge of competing with some of the great teams in college football history.

For instance, the Michigan Wolverines, though they had a tough year last season, holds the record for all time NCAA Victories at 877.
Nebraska is 4th in that category with 832 trailing Michigan, Notre Dame and Texas.

The Big Ten leads the nation in attendance, they have the biggest stadiums and arguably the most loyal fan bases of any league.

Husker coaches feel that they now have and will continue to have the talent to match up in this new league.

Remember the schedule makers did the new guys no favors playing the 2 best teams right out of the gate, visiting defending champ Wisconin Oct 1st and hosting runner up Ohio State 8th.

Long before that September 3rd Nebraska opens the season against the alma mater of TO, Terrell Owens, Tennessee Chattanooga.
