Husker football promises improved defense

If you ask members of the Husker defense, they'll likely tell you they were disappointed with last seasons performance of the Blackshirts.

The Big Red allowed 350 yards a game and 40 touchdowns in their 13 games. They also allowed the opposition to score 27 or more points in 7 of the 13 games.

The task ahead with 7 starters back is to make up for the loss of #1 draft choice linebacker LaVonte David to the Tampa Bay Bucs and defensive tackle Jared Crick to the Houston Texans.

Despite those losses, the guys returning say look for a marked improvement for the Husker defense.

Defensive coordinator John Papuchis begins his first full season at the helm after the departure of Carl Pelini to Florida Atlantic.

The Husker defense will be challenged to make that marked improvement from last year's squad if the team is to contend for the Big 10 Legends division title with the likes of Michigan and Michigan State.
