Nebraska-Michigan game hits both teams with injuries
Saturday's Husker win over the Michigan Wolverines was a costly one for both teams.
We remember the nice catch wide receiver Tariq Allen made in the win over Northwestern. It was his first collegiate touchdown and came at a clutch time helping Nebraska to a come from behind victory. It was so disheartening to see Tariq injured on the opening kickoff against Michigan. He had to be helped to the sidelines, and underwent reconstructive knee surgery Thursday. The redshirt freshman from Weston, Massachusetts is out for this season, but hopefully the surgery will repair the injury allowing him to play in future seasons for the Huskers. As we know, Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson also went down during the game though his injury wasn't as serious. Denard went down here in the first half as he scrambled out of trouble and gained yardage inside the Husker 10 yard line. He hurt his hand and couldn't grip the football so he missed the rest of the game. The Huskers went on to a 23-9 victory. Husker wide receiver Kenny Bell said he hated to see any player go down whether he plays for the opposition or for his team. Thursday Denard was chosen as one of the finalists for the Johnny Unitas award as the nation's top senior quarterback. He is also a finalist for the Davey O'Brien award. Coach Brady Hoke said he took some snaps in practice and feels Denard will play in Saturday's game against the Gophers. The Wolverines and Huskers are tied at 3-1 atop the Legends division of the Big 10, so it seems to be a two team race. |
