Nebraska-Oklahoma rivalry will return
One of the most storied rivalries in the history of college football is back. Well...in 9 years...but still...never too early to get excited about Nebraska and Oklahoma meeting once again on the gridiron.
The Nebraska Athletic department announced Thursday that it has signed a contract for a home-and-home football series with the Sooners. Round one is slated for September 18th, 2021 in Norman. Part 2 is September 17th in Lincoln in 2022. I'm sure the calendars are already marked for that one. Earlier Thursday Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne commented on the two renewing their vows, saying quote: "Our rivalry with Oklahoma has been one of the great traditional matchups in the history of college football. The games between the two schools were generally to decide a conference championship, and many times, helped determine the national champion...I know our fans look forward to non-conference games against high-profile opponents like Oklahoma. I'm pleased we were able to finalize this series." The two programs have met 86 times on the football field with the Sooners holding a 45-38-3 advantage in the series. The 2021 game in Norman will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1971 "Game of the Century" between the two schools. That contest of course when number 1 Nebraska took out second ranked Oklahoma 35 to 31 on the way to their second straight national championship. |
