Looking ahead to Big 10 football playoff schedule
If it were up to Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini, there would be no playoff for Division One college football. The same can be said for UNL Chancellor Harvey Pearlman,
However, that's unrealistic. There is no question college football is moving toward a four team playoff format after the 2014 season at the earliest. There's some that favor a "plus-one" model, taking the two best teams for the national championship game after the bowl games. The four team model, though, is getting the most "run". What is still in question is how to choose the four teams to compete in a semi-final to get to a national title game. The Big 10 would favor choosing only conference champions for the final four. The SEC favors choosing the best four whether or not they're conference champs. Where to play the games and when to play the games also remains an issue. By late July we could see a clearer picture of what a college football post-season may look like starting in the year 2014.. |
