Coach Pelini: "We have to win out"

As we know, the Husker defense has had its struggles. In the last game against Ohio State, quarterback Braxton Miller led the Buckeyes to a 63-38 victory in Columbus against the Big Red.

Last season, Northwestern's Kain Kolter lined up at quarterback receiver and running back and made good plays at all 3 spots as the Wildcats came into Lincoln and walked away with a 28-25 victory.

After last week off, the Huskers again face Kain and the 'Cats this week, this time at Northwestern.

Immediately after the Husker loss to Ohio State a week ago Saturday, Nebraska coach Bo Pelini said it best: "We have to win out." That means win six in a row to finish the season to guarantee themselves the Big Ten Legends division title and a shot to play for the league championship December 1st in Indianaplis.

The guys didn't have to be told, they knew that already.

"We expect to win the last six; you know, we've played very average up to this point. I feel like we can get a lot more out of our players and that's what we're really going to stress this week you know getting back to practice and I feel like we're capable of running the table," said Ameer Abdullah.

Of course, winning six in a row won't be easy starting with Saturday's game at Northwestern facing a Wildcat team that defeated the Huskers in Lincoln last season and is six and one so far this year with their only loss to Penn State.

"You know, Kain Colter is, he's kind of a multi-faceted guy. I mean, he's dangerous as a quarterback and good as a wide receiver," said Coach Bo Pelini.

One bright spot for the Huskers is the return of wide receiver Tim Marlowe who caught a touchdown pass against the Wildcats last season, but broke his collarbone in this year's opener against Southern Miss. Tim says he's anxious to play.

"I'm about one week ahead of schedule. It's usually about eight weeks so Saturday versus Northwestern it'll be the seventh week since I broke it so I'm excited to get back a week early," Marlowe said.

It will be great college football Saturday. Not only do these Huskers play Northwestern at 2:30 on national TV, we here on NBC have BYU taking on the undefeated Fighitng Irish of Notre Dame at the exact same time.

An hour and a half earlier it will be the Hastings Broncos hosting the Morningside Mustangs in a battle of unbeatens at Lloyd Wilson Field with the GPAC Championship likely at stake.
