Five Star Performer: Adams Central Boys Basketball
As we approach the Nebraska Boys State basketball quarterfinals, the Adams Central Patriots are one of the most enthusiastic teams ready play in Lincoln Thursday.
With the best record in school history that they'll take into game with them, Zac Foster's Patriots are our Aurora Cooperative News 5 Five Star Performers. The Adams Central Patriots are heding to the state basketball quarterfinals at the Pershing Auditorium. The team has a chance to make history. The program hasn't won a game at state in five tries. With the school's best record at 21-5 will that history be made Thursday? Coach Zac Foster hopes so. "Once the ball goes up, it doesn't matter. I mean kids are going to go play, coaches are going to coach, but obviously its something we'd like to change and hopefully we can be the team that changes that for our school," said Zac Foster, Adams Central Patriot Basketball Coach. The fans are psyched to send the team off to the Capital City of Lincoln for Thursday's 3:45pm game against the Wayne Blue Devils and so are the players. "Trying to change history. Adams Central has never won a game at state so we're looking to be the first," Tyler Kirkegard, Adams Central Patriot Forward. "You know, I've been dreaming about this my whole life. It is just a dream come true that we actually get to go there, what can you say," Matt Brown, Adams Central Patriot Forward. Look for the game to be a defensive struggle. They played in December and the Patriots defeated the Blue Devils 28-24. The Patriots are ranked 3rd in the state defensively giving up 38 points a game and the Blue Devils Fourth allowing 40 points a contest. Seeded fifth, coach Foster believes the eight team field in C-1 is wide open even though the top seeded Wahoo Warriors are undefeated. "We've either played or seen in person five of the eight teams because we went to that holiday tournament. Four of those teams are in the state tournament now and we've obviously also played Gibbon and Kearney Catholic as well so we're very familiar with most the the teams in the tournament," said Coach Foster. The Patriots sure hope it is not a quick trip to Lincoln. They plan to stay around for a Friday two o'clock semi final game. If that happens, then anything can happen and they hope it does. |
