Five Star Performer: McKenzie Brown
This weeks News 5's Five Star performer is tearing up the basketball court. After already being crowded champion
In a different sport, this week we meet a high school junior with a very bright future. Whether it's volleyball or basketball, McKenzie Brown dominates the court. After leading the Northwest Vikings to a state title this fall in volleyball, Brown has the Lady Vikings hoop squad off to a five and one start. "We're still like pumped from being state champions in volleyball so practices like we work really hard and we know we just want to make it to state in basketball, too," said Brown. The third year starter is on a tear so far averaging 17 points and six boards a game. "She can do it all, you know she has nice size and can handle the ball, shoot it from the perimeter, but yet she likes to bang around and she's a great weapon to have on our side. She can get it done from the inside and outside," said Coach Mike Herzberg. And although Brown has another year left at Northwest, playing at the next level is definitely on her mind. "I definitely want to, I don't know where or anything yet," said Brown. "She's got great potential, she works hard, she's very coachable, so the sky's the limit for Kenzie and what she can do. Whoever is fortunate enough to get her at the next level is very lucky. I'm privileged to be her coach today," said Herzberg. And even though both Brown and her team are out of the games quickly, she's keeping it all in perspective. "I'm always focused on the game that I'm playing so when state gets here I'll be more focused on that," said Brown. |
