Grand Island Northwest prepares for Red Raiders
Coach Kevin Stein of the Northwest Vikings has already said this will be a "breakout" year for his team. The Vikings won just two games last season and plan to do much better under their 3rd year coach this season.
News 5's Will Sherratt caught up with Coach Stein as he gets ready to send his team into Friday night's contest with the Sidney Red Raiders. News 5’s Will Sherratt talked with the head coach of the grand island northwest, Kevin Stein. And coach, how did your team look in the summer with practices as your season is starting tonight? We're looking very well. You know, we had a real nice summer and a real nice fall camp. Stayed fairly healthy besides the bumps and bruises so we're very excited and i think we can really come out and do some nice things. We're really comfortbale in our systems and we're ready to go tonight. So you had a two and seven campaign last year. What are you looking to improve upon this year to get back to the playoffs? I think the biggest thing is our consistency and finishing. You know last year we were dynamite. Played great in the first half all but the one game against mccook the got away from us. Six out of seven loses we were ahead at the end of the third quarter You got a lot of seniors coming back too. What do you think that leadership can help you with this year? Leadership, you know, you're really only as good as your leaders. Unfortunately during the game, us coaches, we can't go out on that field so they have to be able to take care of it themselves. Leadership in the locker room has been tremendous. It's been kind of low key. It's been, you know, taking care of business. When we go out to the field, everyday we come to work and they do a great job on the poractice field so i'm excited to see tonight what the do in the game. Coach kevin stein, head coach of the grand island northwest vikings who open up tonight against sidney. Back to you at the state fair, ed. ì |
