Kearney Little League welcomed home
They've been on the road since August 1st. The Kearney Little League team first won the Midwest Regional in Indianapolis. Then it was onto Williamsport, Pennsylvania for the Little League World Series.
Thursday the squad returns after over three weeks on the road after having been the first Little League team from the Cornhusker State of Nebraska to play in the Little League World Series. The crowd showed up to cheer them and congratulate them for a great season. "It was probably one of the best feelings in the world, I mean there's nothing greater than that. It's been my dream since I was a little kid," said centerfielder Brett Kaiser. "I actually could not believe that at all. I mean, it was crazy being the first team in Nebraska to ever make it. It was the greatest feeling ever," said pitcher Matt Masker. "It was amazing. You know having those cop cars come in and get the whole town kind of riled up. All the people standing along the sides. That was amazing," Coach Brad Wegner said. The Kearney squad lost its first two games of the Little League World Series to be eliminated from the championship. They won their next two consolation games against Germany and Uganda. Now for the Little Leaguers it is back to school Friday after missing a week. |
