Husker National and World Champion wrestler Jordan Burroughs hopes to have that Olympic gold medal around his neck in London August 10th.

Since he is ranked #1 in the world in his 163 pound weight class, there is no doubt Jordan is one of America's great hopes in the games of the 30th Olympiad which start July 27th here on NBC.

Of course, Jordan's routine between now and the magic date of August 10th when he wrestles in London will be grueling. This World Champion has been nothing short of spectacular since winning the NCAA Championship.

This is America's premier wrestler right now, Jordan Burroughs defending world champion, his patented double leg has earned him an Olympic berth.

After his domination in the Olympic Trials, victories in the Grapple in the Apple and the recent international competitions has built his momentum as he approaches these London games.

"There's going to be a lot of media coverage, a lot of distractions, a lot of crazy stuff going on, but right now I'm just focused on winning the gold medal. That's the ultimate goal," said Burroughs.

Jordan is right about that media attention. After winning the grapple in the apple as the Americans edged the Russians, he spoke on NBC's Today show. He has a chance to be one of the faces of these 2012 Olympic Games. Jordan's coach Mark Manning will be right with him in London. For a 3rd time, the Husker head coach has been selected as an Olympic assistant and that can only help.

How comfortable is that for you to take your coach along with you?

"That's awesome. You know wherever I feel most comfortable I feel I make the most improvement. For them to be there and have familiar faces makes me feel like I'm right at home so I won't have any anxiety. I won't have any nervousness. I'll just be ready to go," said Burroughs.

There is little doubt that any Olympic athlete will be more ready than Jordan Buroughs whom we'll see compete right here on NBC's family of networks in these 2012 Olympic games.

"I'm super excited about it. You know, this is a great opportunity for me, great opportunity for the country, the USA, and great opportunity for the wrestling community, so I'm excited about it and hopefully I can bring home some gold," Burroughs said.

In order to win the gold medal, Jordan will wrestle four times on August 10th, He hopes the 4th and final match is the golf medal match.

US Heavyweight Tervel Dlagnev wrestles August 11th in either 4 or 5 bouts as he hopes for his shot at gold.
