Storm prepares for season opener against Sioux City

by News 5 Sports

Their five game exhibition slate is finished, the final roster will be set Wednesday night, and the Tri-City Storm will be ready to skate in the opener Friday night as they host the Sioux City Musketeers.

The team was on the ice Tuesday morning after their most recent pre-season matchups last week in Sioux City.

The team lost close games to Fargo and defending champion Dubuque and dropped one by 5 to Green Bay.

Goalie Phoenix Copley had 37 saves on 40 slots against the defending champs and Storm Director of Media Relations Skip Berry, who broadcast all three games in Sioux City said Phoenix could be an outstanding goalie.

It's fitting the Storm will host the Mustakeers in the season opener.
The teams have battled for playoff spots the past two seasons and have built quite a rivalry on the ice during those years and the seasons before.

Co-captain Kenny Brooks will miss Friday night's opener with an injury. He should return next weekend when the Storm makes it first road trip of the season for games at Dubuque and Des Moines.
