A week from Wednesday both UNK Loper mens and women teams hit the court in Louisville, Kentucky in the NCAA Division 2 championship tournament.

The odds will be against them. They''ll each play warm weather teams that have won National Championships.

With their regional championship trophies already won, the members of the UNK Loper tennis teams are our Aurora Cooperative News 5 Five Star Performers of the week.

They are serious about their tennis at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Both the mens and womens teams are regional champs off to the Nationals in Louisville next week.

The Lopers bring an International Flavor to the court, the best of the best from all over the world.

"Well, we've got Revel Yehezka, spelled Yehezkia, and he's from Indonesia and then we've got Yeswan Nadella from India and then our gal from Indonesia is Venessa Genewa," said Coach Jake Saulsbury.

The Lopers also have one of the best players from England - Jack Nicholson.

No, not that Jack Nicholson. This Jack Nicholson who has an excellent tennis game and knows he has a famous name.

"Every time I come into the country I get a comment about that from the customs guys, Oh, you do realize that's a famous actor here, right? Yeah I do, thanks. You ever see any of his movies? The Shining and he's in Batman Two I think," said Nicholson.

Vanessa Gunewa, who just turned to 18 finished 8th nationally last year, so in her short time in the United States has put the Lopers on the map and now the opponents know who she is.

"Maybe they'll know that we have her on our team and kind of, I mean, not that it'll scare them, but hopefully you know give us a chance to prove ourselves," said Candace Green.

Make no mistake, UNK's challenge once they get to nationals will be a daunting task one week from today.

"We play number one in the country on the women's side in BYU-Hawaii and number two in the country West Florida on the men's side. It will take our best tennis, I think, to win the matches, you know and we're not naïve to that fact they're great, but we feel we can compete at this level," said Saulsbury.
