Conference move will save Lopers in travel costs
One step closer. That is where the UNK Lopers found themselves Tuesday to joining the Mid–America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and leaving the RMAC.
At Tuesday's University of Nebraska Board of Regents meeting in Lincoln the Kearney school was given the go ahead to join the MIAA.
Chancellor Doug Christensen said the letter could be in the mail as early as Wednesday.
The move would save UNK between $150 and $250,000 including travel costs.
If the MIAA accepts the Lopers at its September 20th board meeting chances are that the move would go into effect in the Fall of 2012.
Another reason UNK is pushing for the move? The chance that the RMAC could expand itself into Montana and Utah further increasing the Lopers travel costs.
