Grand Island Central Catholic athletes sign scholarships
As the school year soon comes to an end, graduating seniors make their decisions where to go to college a few months in the future.
A round of applause is given to 3 student-athletes here at Grand Island Central Catholic, all of whom signed college scholarships today.
Basketball star Tyler Barrentos is one of those plaeyrs Tyler signs to play at Midland Lutheran after averaging 15 points for Bill Gavers Crusaders this past season.
Tyler was All-State honorable mention, a four year letter winner and starter on the Crusader state semi-final team 2 seasons ago.
Wrestler Jeremiah Starostak signs with coach Marc Bauer's National Champion UNK Lopers where he'll join among others his brother Zachary on the squad.
Miah has been a 3 time state medalist despite two severe shoulder injuries putting him on the self most of the last two seasons.
Baseball player Trevor Cornelius signs with the GPAC Champion Doane Tigers.
Trevor is a four year letterman in football and basketball for the Crusaders as well as being a star with the Shelton-Gibbon legion baseball team.
"It's a pretty good day for Central Catholic athletics having a wrestler, a basketball player and a baseball player sign, it's pretty cool, it's awesome to be part of of all these great athletes that came through here like Gabe Baldwin, Jenny Green and Todd Peterson. It's great to be a part of this," said Cornelius.
"I feel pretty proud, there's a lot of great players who have come thru Central Catholic and just to be a part of this is for real," said Barrientos.
"I think it's pretty cool I got to sign with them. We got a bunch of athletes from GICC. There three signed today and some signed earlier and just pretty cool how many kids signed from GICC," said Starostka.
Jeremiah added that his experience last year traveling to wrestle in Turkey and Bulgaria with the UNK wrestling team was a fabulous experience.
He said he is fully recovered from shoulder surgery and ready to compete for a spot on the national championship Lopers.
