Yankee pitcher and former UNK Loper Joba Chamberlain was in Kearney Saturday night for the Loper baseball banquet with coach Damon Day.

Joba played for the Lopers one season before transferring to the University of Nebraska.

Chamberlain enjoyed quite the collegiate career pitching for Big Red in the college world series and earning All-American honors.

Joba heads for spring training next month, but he said he is happy to be back in Kearney to help the Lopers Saturday night.

"It's where I started. I don't think I'd be in the position I was if it wasn't for Coach Day giving me that opportunity to play this game. I'm so thankful for him and obviously thankful for everybody coming because this is a big deal for the program and doing the things they need to do to help them be successful throughout the year and cut the financial burden a little bit. I'm excited to be here and looking forward to raising a lot of money for the program," said Chamberlain.

This Loper Upper Deck dinner is the key fundraiser for UNK baseball.

The Loper season opener is right around the corner. They'll play Metro State in Denver February 12th, weather permitting.
