August 27th is the first night many high school football teams kick off the season.

That date has also been set for a volleyball exhibition game between the UNK Lopers and UNO Mavericks at Grand Island Central Catholic high school at 5:00.
The squads will come to the City of Kindness since both have players from Grand Island and nearby cities.

Maverick junior Middle Hitter Brittany Hanssen is a former Crusader and will play on her former home court..
Lopers Jeri Walkowiak, Kelsey Werner and Ariel Krolakowski are former Grand Island Islanders and freshman Jena Rouzee is a former GI Northwest Viking.

Last season, UNK defeated UNO in one of the great matches of the season, 3 games to 2 at the UNK Sports Center winning the 5th and deciding set 16–14.
No score will be kept in the exhibition match between UNO and UNK and there is no admission charge to the match on the 27th at GICC.
