As we've mentioned here on News 5, college baseball season next month and it will begin a new adventure of Coach Damon Day's UNK Lopers.

The team, which recently had its upper deck banquet with guest speaker Joba Chamberlain of the New York Yankees, starts a new chapter entering a new league, the MIAA.

It means the annual game against the Huskers each March at Hawks Field will go away, for at least this year.

Loper coach Damon Day hopes that the Huskers and Lopers can meet on the diamond at least once a season.

"We love to play the Huskers. We truly do. It's a great opportunity. You know, half our team is from the state of Nebraska, grew up going there to watch games and just with the Big 10 schedule and the new MIAA schedule it's not going to work out. So, hopefully, it's something we can work out in the future to get that rescheduled and get us back playing at Hawks Field," said Day.

Coach Day, whose team opens the season February 12th at Metro State, also said the Lopers will not play the Hastings Broncos or another other in state school simply because there is no room on the schedule this season.
