The government will shut down if a funding agreement isn't reached by Monday.

Senator Deb Fischer is hopeful the government can reach that agreement.

Fischer held a phone conference today in which she discussed a resolution that would fund the government through December 15th.

That resolution does not provide funding for the Affordable Care Act.

Fischer praised Senator Ted Cruz on his 21 hour talk–a–thon.

She says she doesn't see a government shutdown happening.

Senator Fischer said Democrats are using it as a talking point.

And she hopes Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will allow a thorough debate over the Affordable Care Act.

“From my time campaigning and my time in the U.S. Senate, what I hear from Nebraskans is that they want to see some changes in government spending,” Fischer said.

Senator Mike Johanns will host a media call tomorrow.

He will also be discussing government funding efforts.
