Alfred W. Earl, 85, died on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society in Hastings. Graveside services will be Tuesday, January 21st at 10:30 a.m. at the Central City Cemetery with Rev. Delano Cunningham officiating with military honors conducted by American Legion Post Six of Central City. Visitation will be Monday, January 20th from 6 to 7 p.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltfh.com.

Alfred William was born on June 2, 1928, in Fremont County, Iowa to Sam and Mary (Hull) Earl. His family moved from Iowa to Prairie Island in Merrick County in 1937. Alfred received his education in Central City Public Schools. After completing hs education, Alfred worked on the Elmer Burhoop farm. He entered the United States Navy on February 14, 1946, served and served in Japan. He was honorably discharged on September 29, 1949. Alfred was called back to served his country during the Korean Conflict on April 14, 1951 and was honorably discharged on January 27, 1953. On October 28, 1953, Alfred was united in marriage to Joyce I. Cox in Grand Island. They moved to Central City in 1954, where Alfred worked on farms, for Overhead Door and Delicious Foods. Alfred and Joyce moved to Good Samaritan Society in Hastings in October of 2013.

Alfred was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed gardening and yard work; and while living at the nursing home, he enjoyed playing bingo and participating in all of the activities for the residents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joyce of Hastings; his children - Katherine Winter of Central City; Elsie Culbert of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Sharon and Lee Simek and Laurie and Robin Flodman both of Missouri; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one brother and two sisters

Preceding Alfred in death were his parents; three brothers; three sisters; and one great granddaughter.
