Alice L. Wenzlick, 88, of Kearney died Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. Rev. James DeLoach will officiate and burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation is planned Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney or prior to services at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church or the Zion Lutheran Radio Broadcast Fund. A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.com . She was born on January 1, 1926 on a farm near Poole, Nebraska to Jacob and Agnes (Wiesen) Fiedler. On October 9, 1948 she married Melvin (Swede) Wenzlick at the Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney. Melvin died in June of 1983.

She attended school at District 23, Sunflower School in Buffalo County, and graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1943 then attended Kearney State College.

She worked for Civil Service in the Personnel Office at the Kearney Air Force Base during World War II. After marriage, she and her husband farmed in the Pleasant Hill Community north of Kearney. In 1970, they moved into Kearney and she worked in the Building Inspector’s office for the City of Kearney until her retirement in 1988.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Concordia Society, Zion Altar Guild, Zion Senior Citizens, and for many years was a member of ThornDiv Extension Club and the Hospital Service League.

Alice enjoyed traveling, garden work and playing cards.

Survivors include sisters-in-law, Dorothy Harmoney of Amherst and Ileene Wenzlick of Kearney, her sister’s daughter; Becky Schweizer of Cincinnati, OH and several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jacob Fiedler in June of 2004, and sister; Virginia Merchant in 2009.
