Another scathing audit of Nebraska's Department of Health and Human Services has been released by State Auditor Mike Foley...
In a press conference yesterday Foley discussed his office's findings.
Among the details in the report; that a Gering woman served as a legal guardian, with payments, for over 600 people throughout the state; with many in Central Nebraska.
That woman, Judith Widener was arrested on Friday after the investigation showed embezzlements of more than 600 thousand dollars through a complex array of credit cards and over 40 bank accounts. Foley says this is another glaring example of the need to reform DHHS.
I think we are going to take the whole agency apart brick by brick and rebuild it. I've said that more than once and I'm going to keep saying it and I'll keep proving the point.
Other issues found in the audit:
People living in a DHHS owned facility were receiving checks for "living expenses."
Also, a convicted felon was receiving 645 dollars in "living expenses", while he was incarcerated in the state penitentiary.
