We are happy to have a popular item return here on News 5, one we'll have the entire football season. It is our Aurora Cooperative Game of the Week and it will take us to the city of York where the Norris Titans visit Levitt Stadium. It should be a great opening game tomorrow night. Before Coach Glen Snodgrass came to York he coached Overton to three state finals including a Class Dā€“1 state title. So it's not that much of a surprise his Dukes are a program on the move. Proof? His team became the first in Class B history to upset a #1 seeded team in the state playoffs when they knocked off the Scottsbluff Bearcats 28ā€“9. Yeah we think about it from the standpoint of that's what it takes to be successful and be great but at the same time we didn't cherish it for this year because we have bigger and better expectations, we want to go farther. The Dukes bowed out in the 2nd round in a hard fought 10ā€“7 decision against Elkhorn. Now to begin this season, they'll face another #1 team tomorrow ningth. Remember the Titans? The Class B state runner up Titans. You know, we try not to focus on the other team much at all. We know Norris is coming in here rated #1 in the state. You know that's all grat and maybe its extra motivation for the kids but the main thing right now is we want to play as hard as we possibly can and take care of us and the wins and losses take care of themselves and good things tend to happen if we play with phenomial effort all the time. Norris may be the #1 team in the state but they'll be without quarterback Jackson Reetz. He's a Nebraska baseball recruit playing for Team USA in Taiwan in an international baseball touranemnt and may miss as many as three games. Regardless, this top ten battle is a contest between teams that in recent seasons have rebounded from tough times. It is a good matchup. Both programs a few years ago nobody really talked about a whole lot and there's a lot of energy at both high schools. Both coaching staffs and both groups of kinds are working extremely hard to make their programs the best they can be. York really came out and hit us hard last year, it was a good game, we came out on top and they'll be trying as hard to play us as we play them. So, will we remember the Titans after their visit to Levitt Stadium to take on the York Dukes tomorrow night? See it here on News 5's Fifth Quarteras football season 2013 is underway.
