The federal prisoner transition facility planned for Kearney comes at the expense of a Hastings corrections facility.
Western Alternative Corrections is protesting the loss of a multi-million dollar federal contract that has instead been granted to Dismas Charities for the Kearney facility.
WAC filed a protest Friday with the US Government Accountability Office.. It's challenging the 6.7 million dollar bid awarded to Dismas.
Hal Perloff is a Washington DC based attorney representing WAC in the protest. He sid he has some real concerns about how the evaluations were done.
"The government will every five years subject these kinds of requirements to new competition. They submitted what they believe to be a competitive, advantageous proposal to the government. They decided to award to another firm that are going to construct a new facility in Kearney and, accordingly, in Hastings the facility would no longer be used," Perloff said.
Because of the WAC protest, the contract award is currently on hold. The money cannot be used by either facility until this case is resolved.
