There was plenty of talk last season and now through the offseason about Nebraska's struggles on defense, but Big Red isn't the only team in the state looking to turn around it's D in 2013.
Granted amidst much less chatter, the Hastings Broncos are hoping to find a remedy for many of the issues that plagued them last year on the defensive side of the ball.
The results were mixed early on, but when the competition ramped up the Bronco D didn't follow suit allowing over 41 points per game in each of it's four losses last year. And on the season Hastings surrendered an average of 29 points per contest.
But Head Coach Tony Harper is hoping continuity in the unit will yield different results this season.
"Defensively we return 9 of 11 starters. Now we gave up a lot of yards so that's the good and the bad. Some of those guys on the defensive side of the ball, Brolio Castillo, Chad Hartman, Tory Warren, some of those guys we are expecting big things out of."
And our first chance to see the defense in action will come on September 7th when the Broncos host Kansas Wesleyan to kick off the season at Llyod Wilson field.
