Bryan “Dick” Fisher, 97, of Wood River, died on Sunday, December 15, 2013.

Bryan “Dick” FisherGraveside services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE with full military honors.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island, NE.

Mr. Fisher was born on February 9, 1917 to William and Ella (Belders) Fisher.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Hazel (Beth) Fisher of Wood River; sons, Richard Z. Fisher of Scotia, Daryl and wife Susan Fisher of Shelton; daughters, Barbara Dorn of Wood River, Kathy and husband Leo Wortman of Wood River, and Karry and husband Larry Jensen of Cairo.

Those also left to cherish his memory are 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 14 brothers and sisters, two grandsons, Ryan Fisher and Billy Fisher.

Dick grew up on a farm in Custer County. In 1941 he entered the United States Army and served in the South Pacific Theater until his discharge on October 15, 1945.

On June 30, 1948 he married Hazel Elizabeth (Beth) McAlevy, to this union five children were born.  Dick worked as a heavy equipment operator in Custer County until they moved to Wood River in 1967, then he spent 30 years working for Knoell Construction.  He continued to work and run heavy equipment until he was 79 years old. In his free time Dick enjoyed carpentry, wood working and metal fabrications. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be designated to the Hall County Heroes Flight.
