Callaway rancher and entrepreneur joins U.S. Senate race

The first candidate running as an independent announced his campaign for Nebraska's U.S. Senate in 2014.

Rancher and entrepreneur Jim Jenkins, of Callaway, is a registered independent and will run as a non-partisan candidate for the seat being vacated by republican Mike Johanns.

The Custer County candidate is a fifth generation cattle rancher and restaurant entrepreneur and he served on the Nebraska Ethanol Board

Jenkins said that both parties need to work together to solve our nation's issues.

Republicans in the race include Ben Sasse, Sid Dinsdale, Bart McCleay and Shane Osborne.
