Disappointment fell over Grand Island when the community learned the state volleyball tournament wouldn't be returning for a forth year.
But this weekend, thousands of spectators are pulling into Fonner Park for a different championship.
Grand Island is hosting the Nebraska State Cheer and Dance Championship for the seventh year in a row.
The two day event isn't just bringing in nearly 2,000 performers from high schools across the state. As many as 8-thousand spectators also descended upon Grand Island-- helping Grand Island to get over the loss of State Volleyball.
"It's very disappointing but I'm sure we'll look at some other venue to get in here. And we would like to get them back. We really would. And I feel Grand Island is big enough now that we can be okay for everybody coming here to eat and stay and enjoy it," said Larry Shaw, a volunteer with the Grand Island Visitor's Bureau.
The State Championship kicked off Friday at Fonner Park and wrapped up Saturday evening.
