Donald E. Sohrweid, 59, of Amherst died Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. 

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst, NE. Rev. Bill Heermann will officiate and burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, northwest of Amherst. Visitation is planned Monday from 5:00 – 7:00 at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney or prior to services Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst or the Amherst Volunteer Fire Department. A message of condolence, tribute, or memory may be sent to www.hlmkfuneral.com. He was born August 5, 1954 in Kearney to Howard and Romona (LeBar) Sohrweid. He was baptized September 19, 1954 and Confirmed June 2, 1968 at Trinity Lutheran Church. He grew up in Amherst and graduated from Amherst High School in 1972. 

On September 7, 1974 he married Jani Sattler in Amherst. 

He lived in Amherst and worked for National Construction of Lincoln. He later lived in Lexington then Sumner, NE and worked for Sperry New Holland in Lexington then Grand Island. He was currently working at Eaton Manufacturing in Kearney where he has worked for the past 27 years. 

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working on old cars and riding motorcycles. 

Surviving relatives include son; Greg Sohrweid and Fiancee Karri Boston of Riverdale, NE, daughter; Tami Sohrweid of Amherst, NE, grandson; Ethan Sohrweid of Amherst and mother; Romona Sohrweid of Amherst, NE. 

He was preceded in death by his father in 2011 and sister; Judith Sohrweid in 1993.
