Donald R. Phillips, 69 of Loup City, NE died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Loup City with Reverend Barbara Spangler officiating.  Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City with military honors by the Loup City American Legion Post #48.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 23 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City.  Memorials are suggested to the Phillips family or donor’s choice.

Donald R. Phillips was born November 1, 1943 in rural Frontier County, NE to Willard Harry “Swede” and Doris Lucille (Arnold) Phillips.  He grew up and attended grade school in the Cambridge and McCook area.  He moved with his family to Loup City and graduated from Loup City High School in 1962.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967 serving in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966.  He was united in marriage to Cleo Adams on June 17, 1967.  The couple lived in Grand Island and then moved to Loup City in 1975.  While in Grand Island he was employed with Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, Berkley Pump Company and Lutheran Hospital.  Once residing in Loup City he was employed at Eaton Corporation in Kearney for 25 years.  He also farmed and raised cattle.  His favorite time of year was harvest time.

He is survived by his wife, Cleo (Adams) Phillips of Loup City; son Jeff and wife, Kelly (Dusek) of Loup City; daughter, Brittini and special friend, Justin Madsen of Kearney; mother, Doris Lucille Phillips of Loveland, CO; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Del Miley of Idaho; Jean and Bob Walters of Arizona and Peggy and Jim Joy of Colorado; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Adams of Loup City, NE and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; sister, Patty; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Vernon and Ruth Adams and brother-in-law, Ron Adams.
