Donna Bell Margritz, 73 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, (formerly of Overton, Nebraska) passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Donna was born January 23, 1941 at Julesburg, Colorado, the youngest of three children born to Joseph A. and Katherine V. (Kukla) Schmitt. When the children were young they made their home in Grant, Nebraska until 1951, at which time they moved to Julesburg, Colorado. In 1954, the family moved to Missouri before settling to Lexington.
Donna received her education from St. Patrick’s High School in Sidney, Nebraska, graduating with the class of 1958. While Donna was attending school at Sidney she was introduced to Leo William Margritz by her sister, Virginia and Leo’s brother, Gerald. The two sisters married brothers and many special memories were made raising their families together in the Overton area. Donna and Leo were united in marriage on June 8, 1959 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington. To this union four children were born: Bradley, Teresa, Gaye and Gregory. Throughout the years, Donna was employed by the Bank of Overton and later transitioned to working in hospital finance, retiring from Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. On June 22, 2008, Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Leo.
Donna enjoyed golfing, and coffee time with her friends when their children were young, and most of all, she loved the time spent with her family and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed bringing the family together, whether it was for a casual celebration or creating holiday memories.
She leaves to mourn her passing; her four children: Brad Margritz and his husband, John Kite of Denver, Colorado, Terri Margritz of Kearney, Gaye Lannan and her husband, Joe of Omaha, Nebraska and Greg Margritz and his wife, Mercedes of San Diego, California; four grandchildren: Lindsay Martian and her husband, Andrew, Candace Kalasky and her husband, Rich, Johnathan Burgi and Monserrat Margritz; one brother, Donald Schmitt and his wife, Lucille of Red Feather, Colorado; one sister, Virginia Margritz of Holdrege, Nebraska; brothers-in-law, Charles Margritz and his wife, Julene of Lexington and Frank Mavetz and his wife, Janet of Canton, Illinois; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Leo, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Gerald Margritz and sister-in-law, Catherine Mavetz.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with the Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
