A Lincoln man charged with driving drunk and killing his passenger pleaded not guilty in Hall County District Court Tuesday.
Hermino Alamilla Jr. appeared in court wearing an ankle brace and free from the wheelchair he was bound to during his August hearing.
Hermino Alamilla Jr. pleaded not guilty to felony motor vehicle homicide, being a habitual criminal, refusal to submit to a test and obstructing a peace officer for the August 19 crash.
During that crash, witnesses said Alamilla was driving recklessly on Highway 281 near Guenther Road before rolling the vehicle and ejecting Jerry Ramirez of Grand Island. Ramirez died at the scene.
If convicted of all four counts, Alamilla faces more than 60 years in prison.
His pretrial is scheduled for December 5th with a trial set for January 6th.
