Early morning shooting scare near UNL

University of Nebraska Lincoln students were put on alert this morning.

The University Alert System sent out a message advising students and staff of a shooting near campus around 8:30 a.m.

26 year old Tramel Patterson shot his father in the leg at a house in the 2200 block of W street between 22nd and 23rd Streets.

Patterson's father was treated for non life threatening injuries.

The shooter fled the scene, prompting the campus alert.

The alert was lifted about an hour later.

Patterson is now in police custody. He's charged with degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
