Last year farmers struggled to overcome the drought, while this year they were faced with a rain-soaked harvest.
After farmers turned to propane to dry their crops and cold weather has swept the nation, the entire country is now facing a propane shortage.
Grand Island's Ace Hardware says they're filling tens of gallons of propane tanks everyday, with most customers using the gas for heat.
As the shortage makes its way into Central Nebraska, Ace Hardware hasn't had difficulty getting propane, but in the last few days their prices have risen 20 cents a gallon.
"Most people haven't even reacted to it. You know, a lot of people have been watching the news. Twenty cents isn't dramatic for propane right now especially since it really hasn't changed in the last 5, 6 years much," said Joel Smith, Ace Hardware Garden Store Manager.
Smith says he expects to see price of propane increase even more over the next coming weeks.
