This is a busy time of the year for local farmers. And, business is picking up for local thieves as well. Pivot battery thefts are being reported all over Central Nebraska. The batteries are valued between $50 to $100. Local farmers told News 5 they think the criminals are stealing the batteries for money to buy drugs. Thieves remove the battery then sell it at a nearby scrapyard. But that's not all they're taking - radiators and copper wires are also being targeted. Authorities are urging farmers to use their phones to take photos of tracks or other evidence. If you notice any suspicious activity, please contact your local police department.
