The State Fire Marshall is working to determine the cause of a massive downtown fire that sent flames and smoke into the Grand Island skyline late last night.
While no one was injured in the fire at 3rd and Elm Street, officials have determined the building was completely destroyed.

Crews were called to fire around 8 PM last night. Officials say the fire appears to have started in Ron's Transmission. Departments from Grand Island, Grand Island Rural, Hastings and St. Paul all responded.

The building houses Ron's Transmission, Edward's Audio and a local thrift store. The fire caused part of the building to collapse, making at least the thrift shop a total loss.

While it appeared the fire was put out by 11:00 last night, crews remained on the scene this morning putting out hotspots.
