Five Grand Island residents died in a single car rollover in Iowa Friday.

Sergeant Bryan Michelsen with the Iowa State Patrol is calling it a "terrible tragedy that could have been avoided."

The accident happened in Adair County at about 8:15 pm Friday.

29 year old Alex Paz-Lobo was driving east bound on I80 when he lost control, crossed the median into the opposite lane of traffic and rolled into a field.

He was killed along with four passengers.

That includes 41 year old Javier Martinez-Martin, 25 year old Denis Sorto-Martinez, 21 year old Jose Hernandez, and 19 year old Erick Rauda.

All were from Grand Island.

The Iowa State Patrol is still investigating the cause of the accident.

It is believed speed was a factor.
