Former state Sen. Bob Kremer died Tuesday. He was 77 years old.

The Aurora native was a farmer and cattle feeder. He served in the Nebraska Legislature from 1999 to 2007.

During his time as a state senator, Kremer was chairman of the agricultural committee, and participated in a trade mission to Japan with then Gov. Mike Johanns in order to expand the market for Nebraska agricultural products.

Gov. Dave Heineman issued a statement following the announcement of the senator's death.

"Senator Kremer was an outstanding state senator and a true community leader," Heineman said. "He was a strong and effective advocate for agriculture, and he was a good friend."

A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora, with visitation on Friday from 4-7 p.m.
