Cut taxes; it's a phrase we hear often from politicians.
Last night at the Grand Island Mayoral debate candidates were asked whether or not residents can expect a tax increase.
Mayor Vavricek touted the fact that city residents haven't seen an increase in two years.
Meanwhile his opponents don't think that's possible in the future if Grand Island wants to continue to grow.
"Back to back city budgets without a tax increase. Going forward I'm not going to take the easy way out and say, hey there's no way to do this but raise taxes. We're doing just the opposite." Said Mayor Jay Vavricek.
"These fees and these utility rates and these taxes continue to go up and it is reducing our attractiveness." Said candidate, Chuck Haase.
"I think it's foolish for any of us to say there won't be tax increases, because some of that stuff is out of our control." Said candidate, Jeremy Jensen.
The primary election is May 13th. Two candidates will move on to the November election.
