A loss for Governor Heineman. His effort to reduce state income tax rates was denied by lawmakers.
Now, he's asking the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce to continue to "keep the heat on."
The legislative committee is instead focusing on adjusting future individual income tax brackets to reflect rates of inflation, and exempt some Social Security income from taxation.
The Governor told the chamber group that Nebraska's top income tax rate is one of the highest in American.
This is his final legislative session as governor.
Heineman has told News 5 that tax relief was priority number one.
