The Grand Island School Board swore in new member Carlos Barcenas on Thursday night.

Barcenas was selected to replace Grand Island attorney Todd Elsbernd, who was fatally shot outside his downtown office in November.

"I mean its hard and difficult succession just because of the incident and how things happen but I know how much he did in the community and how much he was loved by the community. I hear a lot of good things about him and I think this is a good way to keep going with what the board members have been working on."

Among the other items on last night's agenda, School board president Jennifer Worthington and Board Vice President Bonnie Hinkle were both re-elected for the 20-14 calendar year.
