Harold Edward Brown, the son of Martha (Schafer) and William E. Brown, was born April 14, 1925 at Portland, Oregon. He departed this life on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 9 days.

Harold graduated from the high school at Riverton, Nebraska with the class of 1943. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during World War II from 1943 until his discharge in 1947. On June 1, 1947 he was united in marriage with Erna Just at Medina, North Dakota. They made their home and raised their family at Red Cloud, where Harold was employed for over twenty-five years with the Red Cloud Cooperative Association as their tank wagon fuel truck driver.

In his leisure time Harold enjoyed outdoors activities including fishing, hunting and gardening. He and Erna looked forward to the winter months in their retirement years which they spent in south Texas. When they were in Red Cloud Harold enjoyed coffee and shooting pool with his friends. He was a dedicated and wonderful father to his children, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His love for his family was immeasurable. In 2007, Harold moved to Minden, Nebraska to live.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Erna, two grandsons Joseph and Adam, and two great grandchildren Sierra and Devynne.

Left to treasure his memory are his six children, Jim Brown and wife Marita of Brownburg, Indiana; Gary Brown and wife Renee of Snohomish, Washington; Joan Kibbe and husband Paul of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Rick Brown and wife Karen of Torrington, Wyoming; Jeanette Fangmeier and husband Jeff of Duncan, Nebraska, and Kevin Brown and wife Donna of Cozad, Nebraska. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Weber of Wachee, Florida and Katherine Drerup of Amarillo, Texas; a brother, Keith Brown of Central City, Nebraska, other relatives and friends.

The rosary will be recited Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., November 27, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Paul Frank officiating. Interment will be at the Red Cloud Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud.

Memorials will be directed to the American Heart Association.
