Funeral Services for Harold L. Erickson will be conducted from the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk, Nebraska on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Darrel Wissmann officiating. Interment will be held in the Fridhem Cemetery at Funk following the services.

Harold LaVern Erickson, 86 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Harold was born June 7, 1927 on the family farm south of Funk in Phelps County, Nebraska, the eldest of two children born to John E. and Alice M. (Nelson) Erickson. He received his primary education from District #15 east of Sacramento, Nebraska and then graduated from Wilcox High School with the class of 1945. When Harold was young, he had farm related allergies, thus remained inside the house and began to tinker with televisions and radios which later became his life’s work.

On June 20, 1964, Harold was united in marriage to Isabelle Johnston. The couple made their home in Holdrege, where Harold was employed by Bierman Automotive for several years. Later, he began a career as an electrician and was employed by Otis Oleson Radio/TV Sales and Repair and also served as chief engineer at KUVR Radio Station from 1956 until his retirement in 1996. On May 4, 1996, Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle.

On December 27, 1997, he was united in marriage to Carol F. Brecht and made their home in Holdrege. Harold and Carol enjoyed spending time traveling together and visiting with their family. Throughout their travels, Harold always enjoyed capturing the moment in photography. Harold’s other hobbies included: computers, amateur radio and playing country music with the Wilcox Hillbilly’s in high school and then later the Sons of the Soil band for many years. He enjoyed playing the guitar with the group at many nursing homes, Farmer’s Market at the court house, among other places.

Harold was an active member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk, where he served in many capacities throughout the years including soundman and Treasurer.

Besides his first wife, Isabelle and his parents; Harold was preceded in death by his sister, Laurene Anderson.

He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Carol Erickson of Holdrege; three step-daughters: Julie Milburn and her husband, Pat of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kendra Goodwin and her husband, Jim of Lincoln, and Linda Reckling and her husband, Ryon of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 4 step grandchildren: Holly Milburn, Justine Goodwin, Samuel and Nathan Reckling; brother-in-law, Bruce Anderson and his wife, Kathy of Holdrege; special nieces and nephews including: Linda Liljehorn and her husband, Roger of Holdrege, Dick Anderson and his wife, Mary of Funk, Nebraska and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Harold’s honor and kindly suggested to the Fridhem Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice.
