The Hastings Police Department honored a fallen officer Wednesday.

Officer Joel Conklin was killed in the line of duty 20 years ago.

Conklin was shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence call on October 9th, 1993.

Wednesday, his family, friends and officers remembered the fallen officer with a special tribute.

"People got to understand and they got to remember basically what we do and what Joel did. He wasn't out there for himself, he was out there to help people and that's basically what it's all about being a police officer," said Detective Tony Scaccia.

Detective Scaccia gave officer Conklin's family a police cap in his honor.

Officer Conklin is just the second Hastings Police Officer killed in the line of duty.
