Helen M. Benson, 88 of Grand Island, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Golden Living - Lakeview Care Center, Grand Island, Nebraska. 

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday at Apfel Funeral Home with the Reverend Scott Jones officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation hours will be 4-7 P.M. Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Lung, Heart, Diabetes, and Alzheimer’s Associations. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family. 

Helen M. Benson was born, March 21, 1925 in Casper, Wyoming, the daughter of Walter A. & Mildred (Billington) Davis. At the age of three the family moved to Grand Island when she grew up and received her education. 

She was united in marriage to Gale W. Benson, November 28, 1942 in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island where she was employed at Delicious Foods on the packing line as a scaler for 20 years, retiring in 1985. Mr. Benson preceded her in death September 17, 1985. 

Mrs. Benson was baptized and a member of the Mennonite Church and attended the Alliance Family Fellowship Church. She enjoyed reading and sewing. Her greatest enjoyment in life was caring for and spending time with her family. 

Those left to cherish her memories include, sons and daughter-in-law, Gary and Lela Benson of Milford, Nebraska, Roger Benson and his special friend, Laurie Amsberry of Grand Island; daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Alan Musil of Ravenna, Nebraska and Glenda and Bruce Rodabaugh of Marquette, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Sandra Benson; 9 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Roland Davis of Cozad and Dean and Dodie Davis of Claypool, Arizona; sister, Vera Hill of Grand Island, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Richard Homolka of Farwell; sisters-in-law, Nadine Davis of Ventura, CA and Kay Davis of Kellogg, Idaho. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gale W. Benson; son, Dennis Benson; 5 grandchildren; brothers, Darrell, Ivan, Donald, and Walter Davis; sisters, Mary Manka and Betty Homolka.
