Funeral Services for Helen V. Garrison will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Chapel in Alma, Nebraska with Pastor Michael Bell officiating. Interment will be in the Alma Cemetery at Alma, Nebraska.

Helen Verlene Garrison, 94 years of age, of Grand Island, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Lebensraum Assisted Living in Grand Island. Helen was born December 9, 1919 on the family farm east of Huntley in Harlan County, Nebraska, the sixth of nine children born to Fred and Lena (Zellmer) Aldinger. She attended school in Huntley, Nebraska graduating with the Huntley High School class of 1937.

Helen was united in marriage to Lowell Arthur “Dutch” Garrison on December 21, 1940 at Callaway, Nebraska, and to this union three children were born: Thomas Gene, Linda Grace, and James Arthur. The family first made their home on the family farm until moving to Mascot in 1944. In 1949 they family moved to Montrose, Colorado and then to Bertrand in 1954 returning to Montrose in 1960 and then moved to Curtis, Nebraska in 1966. In 1994 the couple retired and moved to Elwood, Nebraska. After Dutch passed away in 1995, Helen made her home in Grand Island. In 2010, she moved to the Lebensraum Assisted Living Home until the time of her death.

Helen enjoyed crossword puzzles and crocheting. She will be remembered for her chocolate pies and homemade noodles.

Most of all, Helen loved the time spent with her family. She adored her grandchildren, and was a very important part of their lives.

Besides her parents and husband, Dutch; she was preceded in death by her brothers: Harvey Aldinger, Walter Aldinger, Delmer Aldinger and Earl Aldinger and their spouse’s; sisters: Norma Edger, Lily Harger, Bernice Frieling and LaVerne Dahlheim and their spouses.

She leaves to mourn her passing; her three children: one daughter, Linda Schroeder and her husband, Gary of Smithfield, Nebraska; two sons: Tom Garrison and his wife, Barb of Alda, Nebraska, Jim Garrison and his wife, Kathy of Gillette, Wyoming; 8 grandchildren: Tom Garrison, Jr. and his wife, Lori of Castle Hayne, North Carolina, Tim Garrison and his wife, Janet of Alda, Nebraska, Brad Garrison and his wife, Melanie of Wichita, Kansas, Kris Lundgren and her husband, Scott of Scott City, Kansas, Greg Hock and his wife, Pilar of Henderson, Nevada, Gina Jones of Henderson, Nevada, Kristy Swisher and her husband, Brian of Littleton, Colorado, Mike Garrison of Aurora, Colorado; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters; one brother-in-law, Bud Dahlheim of Norfolk, Nebraska; and several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.

A memorial has been established in Helen’s honor and will be designated at a later date.
