On the heels a budget deal that could mean 25 million in property tax relief for Nebraskans, today more relief is on the agenda. State lawmakers are scheduled to vote on LB 1087. Senator Pete Pirsch's priority bill would expand Homestead Exemption for disabled veterans and their widows and widowerers.

Currently the state's Homestead Exemption program covers homeowners over the age of 65, qualified disabled individuals and qualified totally disabled veterans and their widows and widowers. Already this session, state senators have given first round approval to another bill that would expand Homestead Exemption to cover more elderly homeowners. Under that bill, married couples who household income is less than 34,700 dollars would get a 100 percent exemption.
