Three of Hastings elementary schools are about 80 years old.
Now a committee of community members is suggesting a plan to renovate the buildings and consolidate them from six schools to five.
Morton Elementary would transition into a pre-school center.
The other five buildings would be renovated to add more rooms.
The total cost is estimated at 21 point 5 million dollars.
"We're really trying to be cost effective. We think that by running 5 buildings rather than 6 we can be more cost effective." Said Craig Kautz, Superintendent, HPS.
The next step is to gather public opinion.
If it's positive, they'll take the plan to the school board for consideration of a bond election.
